Netting is often the most effective way of dealing with birds. Its great for big roof spans, plant roofs & balconies. Netting consists of a wiring system using steel wire rope around the perimeter of the area requiring netting. The netting is attached to the wire using Stainless steel hog rings, holding it in place. Cross wires may sometimes be put in place to support the netting in windy areas as seen in the picture.
Spiking is effective for leading edges, window ledges, and pipework. These can be easily installed on almost any surface. This is carried out by cleaning the surface, applying a special solvent adhesive and sticking down the spikes. They may at times be cable tied, or clipped using specialist clips, for example, on gutters, opening windows etc.
Different spikes can be used for different species of birds.
Birds love nesting under solar panels as they are both warm and safe.
There are a few systems that can be used to proof your solar panels, including specialist clips that clip onto the bottom of the solar panels allowing the opprtunity to clip mesh onto the panels. Another system consists of sticking specialised solar panel spikes onto the side of the solar panels using the same solvent adhesive used for spiking.
Bird Free Gel is great for those areas where discretion is necessary!
These discs can either be stuck down or used with special clips. Depending on the number of birds, location and activity, these can be spaced out between 10cm and 30cm.
The science behind Bird Free Gel works with smells and substances in the disc that cause discomfort to the birds. Once the birds notice these smells are permanent, they reduce the amount of time they return until they no longer land in the area of application.
Pin & wire systems are another system that's great for areas where spikes and gels are not convenient, like the sides of buildings.
They consist of rows of pins and wires that are spaced out at approximately 150cm, every other pin has a spring that causes the wire to flex when the bird lands on the wire, causing discomfort and confusion. These can either be stuck down using pads or drilled in using wall plugs.
Avishock is another product perfect for leading edges of buildings. The track is stuck down using a solvent adhesive and special connections are used for bends. It is then either connected to power via a socket and a transformer or a solar powered panel system supplied by Avishock. It works by sending an intermittent electric pulse through the layout of the track, repelling birds from the area.
